Why the author of the poem "snake"compared the snake with a albatross?

The poet makes an allusion to the Albatross because the Mariner had killed the Albatross and repented it. Similarly, after hitting the snake with the log, the poet regrets his action and wishes for the snake's return.

coz. as the ancient mariner the poet too was going to commit a mistake by killing an innocent creature 'snake ' that's why he remembered the albatross
