Explanation:

The state of Mysore, unlike the other states in India, had grown in power under rulers like Haidar Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. It controlled the extremely profitable trade of pepper and cardamom on the Malabar coast. In 1785, Tipu Sultan stopped the export of sandalwood, pepper and cardamom through the ports in his kingdom and banned local merchants from trading with the East India Company. He also established a close relationship with the French in India and modernised his armed forces with their assistance. This alarmed the British, and they began to see him as a potential threat to their business interests.
