Salt water is denser than fresh water, so the coconut will float higher in the water. ... So it can float in the sea without being damaged by the salt water
or
because water is more dense than the total coconut. Take the mass of a coconut and divide it by its volume and you have it s density. Now take an equivalent mass of a water and divide it by its volume. Assuming you have done all this in the same units say grams and mls you will find that the number for the water is higher than that of the coconut. In other words water is the denser of the 2 as such the less dens will float in the other.
