on heating lithium chloride (LiCl) crystal with lithium vapour lithium atoms losses electron to firm Li*ions the released unpaired electron occupy the anionic sites known as f - centres .the pink color is formed because of the excitation of these electron when they are absorb energy from visible light falling on them
