Why the colour of silicon dioxide changes with thickness?

The color of the oxide coated wafer is caused by the interference of light reflecting off the silicon (below the oxide) and the light reflecting off the top of the oxide surface. As the oxide thickness changes, so does the interference and the oxide's "seen" color.
