why the crops like paddy do not grow well in sandy soil?

Sandy soil is not fit for vegetation as it does not retain water. However, millets can be grown on sandy soil.
as

as water requires more water , it needs soils which retain water .

so sandy soil is not fit for paddy

as paddy needs much water to grow and clay soil allow to give more water to plants than normal soil so that is why it not grow well
