why the direction of current is taken to be opposite to the direction of electron

because electron have a negative charge.

To provide a definition of a current independent of the type of charge carriers, conventional current is defined as moving in the same direction as the positive charge flow. So, in metals where charge carrier (electrons) are negative, conventional current is in the opposite direction as the electrons.
