Its because latitudes are parallel at every where from 0 degree to 90degree north and south. Latitudes are parallel and Longitudes are not parallel the distance reduces between two longitudes when we go from Kanya kumari to Jammu Kashmir. this is the main reason. India North south 3214 Km and east west 2933 km.
