Due to Earth's rotation, day and night occur....... If the Earth does not rotate ,life will not be possible....the people on the side facing the sun will die with the hotness and people on the other side will die with coldness.

Earth rotates because Sun attracts the earth and thus pulls earth. Secondly, due to earth's revolution around sun it tends to go away from sun in direction of the tangent. Hence a rotational force (torque) acts on earth and it tends to rotate.
