why the electrical charge no.of an atom is zero
Answers
You see in an atom there are protons, electrons and neutrons .
Proton carries positive charge and electron carries negative charge Whereas neutrons do not carry any charge .
Magnitude of charge on a proton = Magnitude of charge on an electron= 1.6 * 10^(-19) Coulombs ,
Furthermore the number of protons in an atom = number of electrons in atom
Therefore, net charge on an atom due to protons and electrons = 0
and since neutrons do not carry any charge .
Hence , an atom is electrically neutral ,i.e. , An ATOM has no charge .
- why the electrical charge no.of an atom is zero?
- since an electron is a negatively charged particle and a proton is a positively charged particle the positive and negative charges will cancel each other so the electrical charge on atom is zero.
- Protons have a positive electric charge, and neutrons are neutral which means they have no electric charge. Atoms normally have the same number of protons and electrons. The negative charge of the electron cancels out the positive charge of the proton giving the atom a zero net (or neutral) charge.

We now know that atoms are made up of three particles: protons, neutrons and electrons — which are composed of even smaller particles, such as quarks. Atoms were created after the Big Bang 13.7 billion years ago.Quarks came together to form protons and neutrons, and these particles combined into nuclei.

Electrons are subatomic particles that hold an elementary charge of magnitude -1. The charge of an electron is equal in magnitude to the charge held by a proton (but has an opposite sign). Therefore, electrically neutral atoms/molecules must have an equal number of electrons and protons.

Protons are the positively charged particles which are present in the nucleus of a hydrogen atom.
A proton is a subatomic particle with a mass defined as 1 and a charge of +1 (positive charge). A proton is indicated by either the symbol p or p+. The nucleus of every atom contains protons. The number of protons of an atom of an element is its atomic number.
