Why the electronic configuration of calcium is 2,8,8,2 instead of 2,8,9,1 ?

Because an outermost shell can contain 2,8,18,32 electrons only
This is because if M shell is not completed with electrons Then N shell will be filled

because the last orbit of an atom must contain 8 elements to become stable
