why the electronic configuration of Ge is 4s^2 4p^2 and not 4s^1 4s^3?

this is not because in s orbital only 2 electrons can accommodate according to afbaus principle

Here Friend , Here is your answer

It is because s-obrital can take only 2 electons therefore we use p-orbital.

Also, Ge is p-block element so in it's configuration their is p-orbital.
