It is assumpted that electrons revolve around nucleus on a fixed orbit and so revolve in a circular path. Just think why planet revolve around the sun on a circular path..

Nucleus have proton and neutrons which have high mass, due to which they possess gravitational force and also electrons have mass so they also have gravitational force.

Electrons tries to oppose the force of nucleus and tries to move away at the same time nucleus attracts electrons which results in the creation of movement of electrons in circular path
