the exact balance of power between the centre and the state government varies from one Federation to another due to the nature of route adopted by the country like:

1. Coming together Federation
2.Holding together Federation

In The Political Sphere

1. Coming Together Federation:- in this type of Federation independent units come together on their own to form an union Federation. There main aim is to form a bigger unit so that, by pooling sovereignty they can increase their security. Federation of USA Switzerland and Australia are the example of the coming together Federation

2. Holding together Federation:- under this type of Federation the Federal government decides divide its power between the constituent state and the national government. In this type of govt the central government tends to be more powerful vis-a-vis state.

Holding together sometime gives an equal power to constituent state. Some state are granted special power. Indian,Spain and Belgium Federation are the example of holding together Federation.
