Why the first war of Independence is also called Sepoy Mutiny?

Actually,it was called sepoy mutiny by british historians like LAWERENCE,HOLMES
MARSHAL,etc.they said: 
1.the immediate cause of revolt was greased cartidges.had the soldiers not been forced to use the revolt would not take place.
2. the revolt was easily crushed by british.it lacked leadership & popular support
