Polar bear fur is actually see-through, but it takes on a white color because of its structure. Your hairgets its color from something called pigment. ... Some scientists used to think these hollow hairs might do more than just help bears blend in.

it started when bears eventually made it up to colder environments, usually covered in snow. they had to adapt to new hunting skills and techniques. they eventually adapted to the surrounding environment with white fur to blend in with the snow or ice. This is also a form of Selective Breeding, created by Robert Bakewell. Charles Darwin also supported the form.
