Answer:

Farm subsidies are government financial benefits paid to a specific industry - in this case, agribusiness. 1 These subsidies help reduce the risk farmers endure from the weather, commodities brokers, and disruptions in demand. ... Out of all the crops that farmers grow, the government only subsidizes five of them.

Answer:

First things first who is a ‘farmer’ ? Before I start generalising a bit let me give example of majority of the village folks in Uttarakhand ; like my family many have abandoned their fields and are moving to cities in search of opportunities and better education for their kids simply because our fields are too small and located in a terrian where culitivating anything is not commercially profitable . Now let me come to this question , you know who these loan and subsidy enjoying farmers are ? Most of them are large landowners who roam in Toyota fortuners , these are the ones that are politically savvy and first ones to take to the roads when reforms will be introduced . The real farmer whose image people have in their minds is called a ‘bhoomihar’ I.e a farmer who cultivates crops on land which he doesn’t own , these people are truly poor and as a matter of fact neither aware of government’s policies nor in a position to avail any (more on that on a different post) . The Bhoomihar generally works as a labour on a rich landowner’s fields , the former does the hard work and the latter claims the electricity and other subsidies and even participates in agitations :) . Long story short the poor does not get any benefits from our broken system it is the rich landowner that defaults on loans and enjoys free electricity , the day sentimental Indians come to terms with this fact our governments will stop playing to the choir :)
