Why the gravity decreaces when goes to center of earth?

as we know that gravity exerts force on a body on earth on all directions , for example a man standing on the north pole and a man standing on the south pole were attracted by the same force of gravity.so this tells us that gravity exerts force in all directions but when we reach at the centre the gravitational force becomes zero because the force gravity exerts force in all direction and in centre the forces cancel out with each other and the actual force becomes zero.
