Why the growth cannot be taken as a defining property of living organisms ?

because both living and non living organisms grow...intrinsic and extrinsic growth respectively

Eg..mountain grow by accumulation of matter on the surface

a living cell grows by increse in cytoplasmic content

because growth of any living organism is a external factor by external forces

so it is cannot be taken as a defining property of living organism
