Because when he was young, he was brought up within the four walls of his palace and he didn't know the sufferings of the people beyond his fort. He was happy in his luxurious life. But when he became a statue , he could see the miseries and the poverty that his people were facing everyday. It brought tears in his eyes to see that he could not do anything to help his subjects when he was alive and instead he was oblivious of their pain and could not make their life better.
