Hegira is the historic migration of prophet Islamic Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina, previously called Yathrib.  There’s a historic importance of the march. It is related with a historic incident taking place then at that time.

Islamic prophet Muhammad was warned by some of his well-wishers that someone wants to assassinate him. So, he went to a secret flight from his home at mecca to a place called Yathrib, about 320 km away from mecca. This is called Hegira.
