Why the initial velocity of an object at rest is always zero?

Thank you for asking this question. A really easy but an interesting question.
We must often have this in mind that when an acceleration question comes up and it is stated that the body was at rest so we assume that its initial velocity is zero.
Well that is because the body at rest means it is not travelling or not covering any distance within some given time or has no speed at all. Which means we should take it zero

in order to understand this you will have to understand two terms clearly
motion = when a body changes it's position according to its environment and with respect to time then body is said to be in motion. it means body has some velocity because it is moving
rest = when a body doesn't changes it's position according to its surroundings with respect to time then body is said to be in rest means it doesn't have any velocity.
that means when body is at rest it's intial velocity (starting velocity) is 0.
