Single slit experiment gives the prove thar light bends towards the shadows area when it passes through the edge of the obstacles...

This phenomena of light is called diffraction...

The intensity of the light decreses after first central maxima due to fraction of lights ray forms constructive and destructive interference on the screen....

When we move farther from the cetral bright on the either side of the screen, the fraction of destructive interference increases than constructive interfence as a result intensity of light decreses...
