Mediterranean region has dry summers with less or no rainfalls at all. Also, temperature in winters is not very cool (around 30-65 degrees) and summers are very hot (temperature reaches upto 72 degrees).
This is the reason why this area does not have adequate wildlife as compared to other climate types.
