Methane is called as marsh gas. Because it is produced when vegetation decompose naturally within some geographical marshes swamps , and bogs ....Methane is called as marsh gas as it a produced of the anaerobic bacterial decomposition of vegetable matter under water.

methane is found in the natural gas from oil wells. it is also a constituent of the coal gas.it is formed in the marshy places by the bacterial decomposition of the vegetable matter and hence called marshy gas
