Answer:
Helping my son with a report on names..names are given to remember your ancestry. Hawaiians have to repeat every ancestral name all the way back to the ancients. Its a way to know your OWN identity. If you don’t know where you came from, in their culture, you are truly nobody. Upon greeting, the Hawaiians will speak back their entire ancestry so you know who they are and then in turn they know who you are. This is a pretty deep meaning for why we have names and sadly, how the Western culture has “forgotten who we are”.
