Eastern coastal plains are not narrow they are wider than western coastal plains. If you question is why narrow western coastal plains are very fertile the the answer is the south western monsoon brings orographic rainfall ti the western coast and is blocked by the western ghats due to which it rains heavily in the narrow western coastal plains.
