nephron is considered to be the structural and functional unit of the kidney because each kidney is made up of more than one million macroscopic and thin tubular units called as nephrons .its function is to regulate the concentration of water and soluble substance reabsorbing what body is required and extracting waste material and toxic substance as urine

Hey
Here is your answer,
The kidney if full of thousands of nephrons that carry filtrate from the glomerulus/bowmans capsule through the interstitial fluid where secretion and reasbsorbtion occurs so that urine becomes more dilute or concentrated depending on quite a few things such as salt concentration, water consumption, Anti diuretic hormone concentration, and other factors.
Basically no nephrons = no excretion
Hope it helps you!
