There are two types of winds bring rainfall in India.

1) South west wind (SW) - comes from Arabian sea, it brings rainfall in most part of the country.

2) North East (NE) - that is returning wind.  that brings rainfall in east coast of country mainly - Tamilnadu, pondicherry, AP

During the monsoon period the land mass gets heated and create low pressure and high pressure in Arabian sea  pushes  S_W wind towards India.

due to absence of high mountain small height of Aravali  hill..this S-W wind coming from Arabian sea directly hit to himalaya ...hence no  orographic rainfall occur in North western part of India as western ghat do and brings rainfall in western  part of MH, Karnataka, Kerala.

and North east wind does contain lot of moisture, consequently that become dry as passes through land masses. therefore unable to brings rainfall in western part.

I hope it will help.
