Northern plains in India contain plenty of alluvial deposits which helps in the better food yield . Alluvial soils are very fertile. Most of the soil contain adequate proportion of potash, phosphoric acid and lime which are suitable for the growth of a number of food crops like paddy , wheat ,etc.Due to having high fertility and better yield, northern plains are called the food bowl of India .
