During the Indus valley civilization, a lot of people shifted near the Ganga river and settled down there. The rivers help in irrigational activities. The soil around the rivers are also very fertile. North Indian states like Punjab is called the wheat bowl of India. All these natural resources provide a lot of livelihood to many who work in the primary sector. Like fishing, agriculture, dairy, poultry, small trade, businesses at times etc. Also the climatic conditions are pretty good and favourable.
