hello ,
The Northern Plain was formed by the deposits brought in by the three major rivers and their tributaries. Alluvium was deposited at the foot–hills of the Himalayas for millions of years. These deposits are now the fertile Northern Plains. Alluvium is soil or sediments deposited by a river or other running water.

In almost all parts of the Northern Plain, the Alluvial Soil is found which is a very fertile soil, this makes it fertile. An another reason of being fertile is that all the rivers which come from the mountains deposit the soil here and slow down, this also makes it fertile. Obviously, if the soil is fertile so the agriculture will also be on large scale which makes it rich also.
