The number of British soldiers was increased and the number of Indian soldiers was reduced after 1858, because -
- In the year of 1857, the Indian revolt was occured against the British government.
- This revolt of 1857 which is also known as the first war of independence, was mainly perfomed by the Indian troops of the British army of that time period.
- Although, this revolt was unsuccessful, but it was enough to give a warning to the British government, that the Indians also have enough power to protest them.
- Now, to destroy the chances of second occurence of this type of revolt, the British government simply reduced the Indian troops and replaced with the loyal British soldiers.
