Why the plains called cradle of civilization

Majority of population live in plains, where the climate is the most favourable and the soil is very fertile. Plains are more suitable for settlement than any other landform. Plateaus for example have arid climate and slightly more rainfall would have supported more population. So plains are ideal, and most of the ancient civilisations had blossomed is the plain region, mainly in river banks. So they could be called the cradles of civilisation
