Why the rails in railway lines have tepered end?

To help the wheels stay on the track their shape is usually slightly conical. This means that the inside of the wheel has a larger circumference than the outside of the wheel. (They also have a flange, or raised edge, on the inner side to prevent the train from falling off the tracks).

Answer:

The gap is left between the rails to provide a space for the iron metal to expand and contract during the summer and winter season due to the change in the temperatures. If the gap is not left in between then the rails will bend more and cause derailing of the trains.
