Why the rate of respiration is high in aquatic animals in comparison to terrestrial animal?

Since, Oxygen is less soluble in Water Aquatic animals doesn't get adequate amount of oxygen dissolved in water therefore it increases its breathing rate to fulfil its oxygen requirements.
