Plastic – unlike glass or metal – cannot be recycled infinitely, and after a handful of times it will be discarded, where it will take centuries to degrade. One single water bottle will remain on the planet in some form for a minimum of 450 years. ... Yet plastic is poisoning the planet, and shows no sign of stopping.

‘My answer to that is to reduce our consumption. Plastic is a good made mainly from processed oil, and it ends up being very environmentally destructive to make. When people complain about vehicles causing most of the oil-related pollution, they’re wrong. Synthetics such as plastic and polyester, just to name those two, are very harmful to the planet.
Plus, it has been found that with time, a plastic product such as a container to store our food disintegrates with time, which could lead to us ingesting it. In many cases, the quantities are minimal, but at times there are elements that actually harm us, especially young children. You are therefore much better off using glass containers which cost a bit more but will not disintegrate to store your food.
Recycling also causes a great deal of pollution. The products need to be shipped to the proper processing manufactures, on top of needing more energy and water for the transformation of the product. The only time I’ve heard that the product was not transformed was glass - often, wine and beer bottles are simply adequately disinfected and reused. That is very difficult to do with plastic.
Reducing waste by recycling is a good thing - don’t get me wrong - but definitely not the best solution. We are better off changing our habits.’

Recycling plastic means less plastic in garbage, soil and water which eventually disintegrates into micro plastic. Micro plastic is difficult to identify and convert into reusable and bio degradable material. Plastic has been used now in combination with asphalt for road making etc.

Until we find a way to effectively convert plastic into a biodegradable substance , we better not add it to garbage at least.
