Vertical and direct rays of sunlight fall on the equator, which make it hot in temperature.

The regions near the equator are also hot as the rays of the sun also reach there.

The regions away from the equator are cooler because they receive slanted rays of sunlight and not direct rays, which makes the temperature not as hot as that in the equator.
