The reverberation time is larger for an empty hall than for a crowded hall because there are many sound absorbers present in a crowded room, whereas the sound is reflected back by the walls of an empty room. Therefore it persists for a longer time in an empty hall.

◆ The multiple REFLECTION of sound in a hall causes PERSISTENCE of sound for a little more time. This phenomenon is called REVERBERATION.
◆REVERBERATION TIME is larger for a empty hall than for a cinema hall is because of the presence of sound ABSORBERS in the cinema hall, to reduce reverberation , and this increase sound quality and clarity.
◆Even the chairs, and people sitting on them absorb sound , thus leading to less REVERBERATION.
