Human brain is divided into two cerebral hemisphere. The left hemisphere controls the muscles on the right side of the human body. When you wink your right eye, that's the left side of your brain at work. This is because of a criss-cross wiring known as decussation, damage to one side of the brain affects the opposite side of the body.
There are various tracts... Sensory tracts or the ascending tracts decussate in the spinal cord and some of them in the brain stem. The motor tracts or the descending tracts decussate in the lower medulla. Due to this reason our body is controlled by opposite side of the brain.
