Why the sky does appear blue?.​

as sunlight of all colors passes through air, the blue part causes charged particles to oscillate faster than does the red part. More of the sunlight entering the atmosphere is blue than violet, however, and our eyes are somewhat more sensitive to blue light than to violet light, so the sky appears blue

  • The molecules of air & other fine particles in the atmosphere have size  smaller than the wavelength of visible light.
  • These are more effective in scattering light of shorter wavelengths at the red end.
  • The red light has a wavelength about 1.8 times greater than blue light.
  • Thus when sunlight passes through the atmosphere, the fine particles in air scatter the blue color more strongly than red.
  • The scattered blue light enters our eyes and the sky appears to be blue
