Within the visible range of light, red light waves are scattered the least by atmospheric gas molecules. So at sunrise and sunset, when the sunlight travels a long path through the atmosphere to reach our eyes, the blue light has been mostly removed, leaving mostly red and yellow light remaining.

normally the sky appears blue due to the scattering shorter wavelength of visible light ( like violet and blue ) but as our eye is more sensitive to blue light so sky appears blue

But during sunset that is something different the sky appears red because of a effect known
as Rayleigh scattering.
Within the visible range of light, red light waves are scattered the least by atmospheric gas molecules. But during sunset the light larger distance to reach our eyes so the blue light has been mostly removed, leaving mostly red and yellow light remaining.

so the sky looks red during sunset
