why the sky near the Horizon appears to have a reddish hue at the time of sunset and sunrise

At the time of sunset and sunrise,light has to pass through thicker layers of air and a large distance. Only larger wavelengths of light reach us and shorter wavelengths are scattered away. Since red colour had larger wavelength, so the sky appears to be reddish near the horizon. Also, Particles present in our atmosphere absorb all other colours, except red,therefore giving it a reddish colour.
