The revolt of 1857 was according to some historians was the Sepoy Mutiny that took place as a result of the introduction of new gunpowder cartridges for the Enfield rifle. Though some political leaders such as Nana Saheb, Bakht, Bahadur Shah II, General Bakht Khan, Rani Laxmibai and others support-ed this movement, it could not attained success in lack of unity or say Central leadership. This movement which has been defined as the first nationalist struggle of India did not see the participation of the South. There were two main reasons for this, firstly the revolt took place in the Northern part of the country and It was impossible for people to support this struggle from the far south. Secondly, there was no proper communication facility due to which no connection could be made to the Southern States.
