Why is the speed of the rotation of the earth greater at the equator, than at the Arctic Circle?

If you are asking the speed of rotation in rpm (rotation per minute) then it will be same at pole and equator. Because one rotation at equator will be same as one rotation at pole and at same time.

Imagine a football spinning on an axis. Now put your imagination a slow motion effect. If one rotation is completed by football, then one rotation will be completed by all the points on football, either the point is near to axisor at equator of football. So if football rotates 100 times a minute then its rotational speed will be 100 rpm at axis as well as equator.

Now suppose, you want speed of ball in m/s. Here, it will be different at different point. How ??

Back to slow motion imagination, suppose there is a point near to axis of spinning (pole) and a point at equator. Draw a circle through those points keeping center as axis. Which will be bigger circle. Obviously the point at equator.

Now in one spin point at equator will cover the same distance as of the circumference of circle drawn through that point.

And distance covered by point near to pole will be the same distance as of the circumference of circle drawn at that point.

Now which circke will have more circumference ?? Obvuously Equator one.

So in one rotation of football, the point at equator will cover more distance than the point near to pole. So if in one minute football rotates 100 times then distance covered by the points will be 100times of circumferences of their respective circles. So the point at equator is covering more distance than the point near to pole in one minute. So speed at equator will obviously be more than that of pole.

I hope you got it. Little weak in English so please ignore grammar mistakes
