ANSWER :

Striders are a type of aquatic insects. They use the knowledge of surface tension due to which they do not sink in water.

The water molecules attracts in such manner that it creates a surface tension and results in the formation of a membrane. This membrane helps the striders to allow striders to float as the water striders walks over this membrane.

Because of this reason, the striders floats on water and does not sink at all.

They can float on the water because of the presence of many microscopic hairs on their legs which keep them dry.

EXPLANATION:

  • 'Striders are small insects' which 'floats on the water' using the small 'microscopic hairs on their legs'. These microscopic legs keeps them dry and helps them to float on water.
  • If these hairs were absent their tiny legs would be wet and then they would have drowned in the water. They also take the help of the 'surface tension of water' to keep floating on the surface of the water.
