Why is the study of fluid mechanics important?

We are breathing air from atmosphere and air is a fluid. Any where you go in this Earth any kind of work you do you have contact with air.

You are using water for drinking and chor works. Most of the city has a huge water distribution system. Some city's even have steam distribution system which is also fluid. All are industries are running in this world can't run without water. Most of the industry has steam, chilled water distribution system. We are using fluid everywhere.

If we have proper knowledge on fluid characteristics, we will be able to run a efficient fluid distribution system which will be energy efficient. Less energy consumption means less carbon emission, less bio fuel burning, better world.

May be it seems a lame topics but it has a great impact on our society, if we observe probably.

Let me tell you a fact, the industry I am working right now had no one have good knowledge on fluid mechanics and efficiency of boiler was only 40%. Just doing a little change now it is 70%. Almost 10% efficiency was increased by reduction of heat loss only by thrmodynamics knowledge.. But for increasing of another 20% required both thermodynamics and fluid mechanics knowledge.
