A phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering causes light from the sun to bounce off tiny particles in the atmosphere and scatter in different directions. Sunlight consist of many colors from red, which has the longest wavelength of all visible light. So due to this sun appears red in sunrise and sunset.

At sun rise and sunset the distance between the sun and earth became maximum and the white light come from sun has 7 different colors and red colour which is least scattered where go to far distance therefore when sunrise and sunset happen we saw red colour
