Why the term daughter is commonly used in terminologies of chemistry abd biology instead of son?

Organisms or cells that are capable of producing offspring are also given a feminine trait such as mother, daughter and sister. The parent cell is often called the mother cell, and the daughter cells are so named because they eventually become mother cell themselves.
