Why the walls of dam are thicker near the bottom than at the top

Liquids exert pressure. Their pressures increase as they go lower, similar to atmospheric pressure. this is called fluid pressure. They exert same pressure in al directions at certain depth. To control this pressure, the walls of dams have to be thicker than they are at the top
